The
course is very easy to find, situated on the old main road (EN125)
opposite the turning to the town of Cabanas. Traveling east on
the IP1 take the turning to Tavira, follow this road to a set of
traffic lights turn left to Tavira (you are now on the EN125).
You will see the course on your left after 3.5 Km, take care the
sign to the course is not very large.
This new golf club near Tavira in the east of the
Algarve offers full facilities for every golfer. Opened in March
2000
The course of 5,497 Meters, par 71 winds through
gently undulating Algarvean Landscape, with some spectacular view's
of Mountains to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the south.
Whilst this course is relatively short, it does have some hidden
surprise's in store if you find the wrong part of the fairway.
The first is a relatively short par 4 a good drive to the left
side of the fairway leaves a short iron the a generous green. Hole
5, a testing par 5 with an up hill tee shot and a tree lined fairway,
an accurate tee shot is needed. Your second shot is set against
a mounting backdrop a good fairway wood leaves you with a pitch
to the green, which is protected by bunkers left and right. The
last of the first nine is a short par 4, the elevated tee hides
some of the vast waste area on the left. The tee shot is either
a risky one over the rough and around an electrical pillion, a
good 3 wood leaves you with a pitch and run to a generous green.
For the drawer of a ball it gives relatively no problems, unless
you three put like I did on my first visit. You will have time
for a refreshing drink on your way to the 10th tee, every one here
seems happy with this.
The 10th offers a mid iron tee shot over a small
lake and a hidden well, the green is protected in front with a
pot bunker and to the left must be regarded as an un-playable area,
if you are on the green no problems. A classic 13th, with a Risk
and Reward element to the drive, a stream crossing the fairway
is in full view of the player any drive must carry 200 meters to
clear it. A lay up will leave you with a mid-iron to the bowl-shaped
green, guarded by a bunker in the centre approach. On the tee of
the 16th, the longest hole on the course with a testing up hill
tee short, the second shot needs to be long and with a well protected
narrow entrance to the round green, putting is crucial. The 18th,
par 5 is the longest par 5 at Benamor, again an uphill tee shot.
The second shot offers many choices, the safest is down the left
avoiding the many trees eating into the right side of the fairway.
Your third shot can be anything from a wedge to a 5 wood depending
on the wind and the length of the second shot. The green backed
by a view of the church and club house is protected by bunkers
left, right and to the rear.
