| Salgados Golf

| Salgados is
located west of Albufeira near Armacao de Pera, the course lies
close to the sea on an uncharacteristically flat stretch of the
Algarve coastline. This course is almost below sea level and can
be subject to high winds coming from the ocean, water naturally
plays a big part of the layout due to the mash land that surrounds
the course. Salgados with all it's water feels a little like a
Florida golf course, but this is where the similarity ends. |

One of the main tasks here is to
be sure to think about every shot very carefully, please consult
your strokesaver as water lurks around every corner. What you
think is a good shot can soon turn into a lost ball in the water,
or a fairway that doglegs left or right leaving your ball to
run straight on, yes, water again. I played here with two society
teams totalling 20 players, some of us had to return to the clubhouse
after 9 holes to replenish with more balls (You can buy Experienced
Water Balls from the pro shop). One of our group mentioned he
had lost 6 golf balls by the time we reached the last player
we had totalled 100 golf balls lost. Your tip here is please
take care…
So to the course, from the first to the last
you are tested with every shot, the first tee has out of bounds
to the right, a stream in front and a lake to the left, just
what you need from the first tee. The par 5 sixth has a water
hazard running down the entire right hand side, with all the
water here it seems to make the fairway somewhat narrower than
it is. Yes, the approach is protected with water and just a
small strip of fairway in front of a two-tiered green. Of the
par 3's the 12th is probably the most difficult due to the
lake you have to carry, carry the lake and you are home and
dry. The 15th is a 545 meter par 5 with the tee located over
looking a creek, with this hole try to miss all the dunes and
out of bounds to the right otherwise a relatively simple hole.
